Every passion like my passion for photography begins somewhere. When I was a child my mother always said that I had attention to detail and that I really cared about everyone around me. These two attributes go into every project I have. When I was a child I actually loved and hated to have my picture taken. My mother loved to take pictures and if I didn’t know she was shooting she would capture some great photos of my siblings and myself. When I turned twelve I was given a camera for my birthday, I still have that 35mm film camera. Over the last thirteen years a hobby that started with a small film camera has transformed into professional digital photography.

Through many classes, books, seminars, and tutorials I have acquired the skills needed to envision a picture before it has happened. My photography is reactive to my clients it evolves with every project that I do. The process is fluid, expanding, always growing and reaching new levels. That is what draws me to photography.

In 2007 I was able to travel with my wife to China to work as an oral English teacher and freelance photographer. It was a life changing experience seeing a different world than the one that I had always known growing up in Madison, WI. It has given me a great appreciation for people.

Anyone can take a photograph, few can capture the essence of life in ordinary and extraordinary circumstances. My clients say that I make them feel at ease. I feel our sessions are just as much about them as people as it is about taking pictures. If its shooting a wedding to shooting a senior portrait I make sure that my clients are having a great time and that we are capturing great pictures. After the pictures are taken I go to great lengths to make sure your pictures are edited the way that you like. Overall my clients say from beginning to end they had a great experience and that my services always exceeded their expectations. That makes me feel good about being a photographer.

Principal Photographer: Karl Dettmann

Photography has always been a hobby for me. I have made it a point to capture life around me. My personal web site www.karlsplace.com is my life via pictures since 2003. I purchased one of the first digital SLRs. I thought is was the most amazing piece of photography equipment ever. We have come a long way since then and so has my skill as a photographer. My strength in photography is photographing people. My mother always said “a picture is only good if someone is in it” I think that she was really just trying to get me to smile for a picture. But what she said sticks with me to this day.

Many of my images have been used on websites and have been hung to inspire. I capture the beauty and creativity of what is around me. I’ve always been very professional in what I do but I like to have fun doing it. I think that half of the enjoyment that goes along with great pictures is remembering what was going on while they were taken. So my goal is to make sure that my clients are enjoying themselves.
